Parrot Residence
The Parrot Residence is a one-and-one-half storey Edwardian-era building located in one of the city’s oldest residential neighbourhoods, adjacent to the downtown core. The historic place is confined to the building footprint.
Built in 1916, the Parrot Residence is a very good example of an Edwardian-era bungalow and displays many elements typical of the style, including a simple, square form, restrained ornamentation, an open front verandah with square chamfered columns, and a cross-gabled roof.
The Parrot Residence is significant as an example of the type of superior housing, both in design and construction, which typifies this neighbourhood. By the turn of the 20th Century, this area was established as a middle- to upper-income residential neighbourhood, a comfortable distance from the busy commercial core and adjacent mixed-use neighbourhoods.
Résidence Parrot
La résidence Parrot est un bâtiment d’un étage et demi de l’époque édouardienne situé dans l’un des plus anciens quartiers résidentiels de la ville, adjacent au centre-ville. Le lieu patrimonial se limite à l’empreinte du bâtiment.
Construite en 1916, la résidence Parrot est un très bon exemple de bungalow de l’époque édouardienne et présente de nombreux éléments typiques de ce style, notamment une forme simple et carrée, une ornementation sobre, une véranda ouverte en façade aux colonnes carrées chanfreinées et un toit à pignons croisés.
La résidence Parrot est importante en tant qu’exemple du type d’habitation de qualité supérieure, tant sur le plan de la conception que de la construction, qui caractérise ce quartier. Au tournant du XXe siècle, ce secteur s’était établi comme quartier résidentiel à revenus moyens à élevés, à une distance confortable du centre commercial animé et des quartiers à usage mixte adjacents.
