Kitchin Residence – North Vancouver City
The Kitchin Residence is a one-and one-half storey wood-frame Arts and Crafts residence, notable for its wraparound verandah and broad, steeply pitched roof. It is located at a prominent location at the corner of 15th Street and Mahon Avenue.
The Kitchin Residence is evidence of early suburban development during the “Boom Years” in North Vancouver, between 1905 and the beginning of the First World War. The house is a sophisticated example of the Arts and Crafts style, featuring irregular, picturesque massing, a steeply pitched cross-gabled roof, half-timbering and large multi-paned windows with transoms. Built circa 1910 as a retirement home for Hubert Kitchin (1869-1926), it was expanded in 1912 with the addition of two bedrooms.
