Krupp Cannon

Krupp Cannon is a German cannon from the First World War. It is located in the middle of Broadway Boulevard on the central median between Victoria Street and Church Street in Grand Falls.

Krupp Cannon is designated a Local Historic Place because it represents an important era both for the community and for the greater Grand Falls area.

After the First World War, the federal government’s War Department distributed a number of German cannons that had been seized, and the town of Grand Falls was one of the recipients chosen. The cannon has been displayed on Broadway Boulevard since 1929. It is a 77mm cannon, number 8283, captured by the 25th Battalion of the Canadian Expeditionary Force on August 27, 1918, during the Battle of Arras at the Moon Quarry, near Chérisy in France. New Brunswick’s 26th Battalion formed part of the brigade that captured Cherisy during this battle.

Le canon Krupp est un canon allemand provenant de la Première Guerre mondiale. Il se situe au milieu du boulevard Broadway sur le terre-plein central entre les rues Victoria et Church à Grand-Sault.

Le canon allemand Krupp a été désigné lieu patrimonial local parce qu’il représente une époque marquante autant pour la communauté que pour la grande région.

Après la Première Guerre mondiale, le Département de guerre du gouvernement canadien a distribué un nombre de canons allemands ayant été saisis. La ville de Grand-Sault a été l’une des villes choisies et le canon est exposé sur le boulevard Broadway depuis 1929. Il s’agit d’un canon de calibre 77 millimètres, numéro 8283, ayant été capturé par le 25e bataillon du Corps expéditionnaire canadien le 27 août 1918, pendant la bataille d’Arras à “Moon Quarry” près de Chérisy en France. Le 26e bataillon du Nouveau-Brunswick a formé une partie de la brigade qui a capturé Chérisy pendant cette bataille.
