The Broadway

The Broadway is a two-and-a-half storey Second Empire building located on Broadway Boulevard in Grand Falls. This building is a former hotel that was once known as the second Grand Falls Hotel.

The Broadway is designated a Local Historic Place for its architecture as a reflection of its former use as the Second Empire style Grand Falls Hotel.

Today housing “The Broadway” nightclub, this building was originally known as the second Grand Falls Hotel. The hotel was built in 1901 and at the time had a two-storey mansard roof and a cupola overlooking the town. This building was partially destroyed by a fire and, in the 1980’s, the cupola and the upper storey of the roof were removed. A commercial-style building, it is still characterized by its substantial massing covering a large surface area and its mansard roof, recalling the imposing structure that was the Grand Falls Hotel. Features of the Classical Revival style can also be seen in the commercial architecture. Although this former hotel has undergone several changes, it has retained elements of its original Second Empire style architecture.

Le Broadway est un bâtiment de deux étages et demi du style Second Empire situé sur le boulevard Broadway à Grand-Sault. Cet édifice s’agit de l’ancien hôtel qui été connu sous le nom du second Grand Falls Hotel.

Le Broadway est désigné lieu patrimonial local pour son architecture rappelant son ancien utilisation comme l’hôtel du style Second Empire, le Grand Falls Hotel.

Abritant aujourd’hui une boite de nuit, « Le Broadway », cet immeuble était connu à ses débuts comme le second Grand Falls Hotel. L’hôtel a été construit en 1901 et avait à l’origine un toit en mansarde de deux étages et une coupole surplombant la ville. Cet édifice a été partiellement détruit par un incendie et, dans les années 1980, la coupole ainsi que le dernier étage du toit ont été enlevés. De style commercial, ce bâtiment se caractérise maintenant par sa volumétrie massive couvrant une grande superficie et son toit en mansarde, rappelant la construction imposante du Grand Falls Hotel. On retrouve aussi les traits du style renouveau classique dans l’architecture commercial. Bien que cet ancien hôtel a subit plusieurs changements, il conserve des éléments architecturaux de son style Second Empire d’origine.
