Ruthenian Greek Catholic Church of the Ascension
The Ascension of Our Lord Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church, erected in 1940, is a small wood-frame building on an open rural site in the Crawford Park area near Onanole. The municipal designation applies to the church, its adjacent bell tower and cemetery, and the grounds they occupy.
The Ruthenian Greek Catholic Church of the Ascension is a tiny, apparently utilitarian building that nevertheless bears the architectural imprint of traditional three-frame churches found in the western mountain regions of Ukraine. Accompanied by a tidy cemetery and bell tower, the church occupies a quiet unsheltered plot overlooking the southern limits of Riding Mountain National Park and stands as a tribute to the patience, perseverance and faith of its founders. Its compact interior, decorated with tasteful simplicity and care, continues to welcome parishioners on special occasions.

Érigée en 1940, l’église ruthène catholique grecque de l’Ascension est un modeste édifice à ossature de bois dont la silhouette se dresse au coeur d’un site champêtre dans le secteur du Crawford Park près d’Onanole. La désignation municipale s’applique à l’église, au clocher et au cimetière adjacents, et au terrain qu’ils occupent.
L’église ruthène catholique grecque de l’Ascension est un tout petit édifice d’apparence presque utilitaire qui porte néanmoins l’empreinte architecturale des églises traditionnelles en trois sections qu’on trouve dans les régions montagneuses de l’ouest de l’Ukraine. Accompagnée d’un cimetière et d’un clocher proprets, l’église occupe une parcelle paisible et dégagée qui surplombe les limites méridionales du parc national du Mont-Riding et qui témoigne de la patience, de la persévérance et de la foi de ses fondateurs. Sa compacité intérieure, décorée avec goût, simplicité et soin, continue à accueillir encore des fidèles lors d’événements spéciaux.
