Archibald United Church – Pembina
Archibald United Church is a wood-frame building constructed in 1898 and originally associated with the community of Archibald and now situated on a nearby museum site northeast of La Rivière. The municipal designation applies to the one-storey building and the large museum village site of which it is part.
Archibald United (originally Methodist) Church, a modest wood-frame building with restrained Gothic elements, is a rare surviving link with one of the earliest settlements in the La Rivière area and a fine example of the restrained forms and simple materials prevalent in Methodist churches of its time. The enduring well-proportioned structure is a direct link to a congregation started in the Archibald district in 1879, before the arrival of the railway favoured the growth of villages in other nearby locations. It served as a community focal point until it closed in 1964, and now on a village museum site with many other buildings and artifacts remains as an important link to the past.
Église unie Archibald – Pembina
L’église unie Archibald est un bâtiment à ossature de bois, à l’origine liée à la collectivité d’Archibald et maintenant située sur le site d’un musée voisin au nord-est de La Rivière. La désignation municipale s’applique au bâtiment de plain-pied et au terrain qu’il occupe.
Bâtiment modeste à ossature de bois et aux éléments gothiques discrets, l’église unie Archibald (à l’origine méthodiste) est un rare témoin encore vivant de l’une des premières colonies de la région de La Rivière et une belle illustration des lignes sobres et des matériaux rudimentaires caractéristiques des églises méthodistes de l’époque. Robuste et bien proportionnée, la structure est directement liée à une congrégation formée dans le district d’Archibald en 1879, avant que l’avènement du chemin de fer ne contribue à la croissance des villages avoisinants. Elle a constitué un point d’intérêt local jusqu’à sa fermeture en 1964.
